Happy birthday! No, I’m not talking to you, I’m talking about Wii Room, which turned a whopping 16 years old this month! That’s right, Wii Room can finally get a job and pay taxes. What an occasion! We’ve got more stuff to announce this month, so let’s take a look at the WiiLink news.
Sweet 16
Like we mentioned before, Wii Room is 16 years old this month. We’re thrilled to be here for it’s birthday, and we'd like to announce a special feature! In the next issue, we'll be featuring an extra large Forming Links with Noah Pistilli (Sketch) and Kolton Ramos (GamerKGR) about Wii Room! We'll be talking about various challenges of reviving the channel, how it got started and more.
Join the crew
In the WiiLink team, we have various smaller teams that do different things to manage the service. Through this past year, our content team’s scope has expanded far beyond its initial job thanks to the opening of Wii Room 1.0, resulting in us being extremely understaffed. So, we’re asking you for help!
We launched the Content Team Application Form. This form will allow interested people to apply for the WiiLink Content Team and join us in our endeavours!
But Becca, what the hell is a Content Team? And can I get your number? I hear you ask. Those are both great questions! The content team is about managing content on various channels, NOT about creating a show on Wii Room (which you can also pitch through a separate form). This includes managing Nintendo Channel by updating videos and banners, moderating and creating contests for the Mii Contest Channel, and managing shows, rooms and a lot more on Wii Room.
You can apply to be a content manager through this form.
Music is finally real
We previously announced the development of our second soundtrack album, vibrant memories. Since then, we’re had a couple more developments to announce! vibrant memories will feature Rem3dy and Nuclear (Super Mario Bros. CD), ZAZiOs (WiiLink Team) and more composers! We can’t announce the full slate of composers at this time, so stay tuned for more updates.
Additionally, vibrant memories, along with aero serenity will be available to stream digitally on Spotify, as well as physically on CDs! We got a test copy this month to confirm its quality and we can confirm it turned out beautifully.
But that’s not even the wildest part! The wildest part is that you can listen to a sneak peak of vibrant memories RIGHT NOW with the DJ Mix on YouTube! This mix presents portions of various songs that will be in the full album! You can listen to it right now from the video below.
Support us in a new way
You may have noticed from the website, but we launched YouTube memberships earlier this month! Don't worry, this will still only be used as funds, and not free money for Kolton to buy Knuckles' Chaotix. Currently, our Stripe tiers give you various benefits and access to the tester channel, where we share sneak peaks and smaller updates. While this can suit many users, the benefits can be a hassle to manage, and some people may only be interested in the viewing side of the donations (WiiLink Originals pilots, new songs, channel footage, etc). This is what YouTube memberships are for! Memberships are available now in 2 tiers, Green ($1.99), which gives you access to the #donators channel on Discord and a shoutout on the website, and Blue ($5.99), which gives you access to WiiLink Originals pilots, content previews, new songs to be featured in soundtracks and other details we're not quite ready to show the public. As of publishing, you can watch pilots for 5 shows, and 6 early versions of tracks to be featured on vibrant memories.
Don't worry though! Even if you don't pay, you won't miss out on anything important, and our content previews will be available to you after a certain amount of time. Additionally, if you already pay for the Tulip tier on our website already, you have access to this content on Discord, and you don't need to pay on YouTube.
Never lose your pride
Pride Month starts tomorrow (or today if you're from the country of Nippon)! We're not currently planning any specific event for the occasion, but we wanted to mention it nonetheless. Many of our developers and users are queer, and we would be nothing without them. Regardless of whatever happens, you are all always welcome in our community. Unless you like Hatris. Never talk to me again.
Like last year, we have special branding! This one was also designed by Alex, who said this time he wanted to make a design where "there are no straight lines".
And that’s it for this month’s news! Admittedly not as much as usual, but we think the announcements we did have this month had a lot more to chew on. While we’re not just a Wii Room service, it’s certainly the biggest service we provide. The original Wii Room was launched on May 1, 2009 and cancelled on April 30, 2012, meaning it lasted pretty much exactly 3 years. Our version launched in December 5, 2020. But that was really a beta, and our official released was in July 6th, 2024, so we’ve kinda been around more than the official channel? Depending on your metrics we’ve either been around for 4.5 years or nearly 1 year. This is too complicated, I’m gonna go play Animal Crossing New Leaf for my Nintendo 3DS.
