Welcome to a special edition of the WiiLink News. We normally only issue news posts at the end of every month, but we've decided that this update is big enough where we should inform all of our users as soon as possible. After 12 years, the Wii Menu is getting updated once again to Wii Menu 5.0.

You may be wondering why we're updating the Wii Menu after all these years. The main thing comes down to developing compatibility. During developing many of the channels, we've continuously hit walls due to the limitations of the Wii operating system. If we could edit the operating system itself, we would be able to do so much more with the program. So after much consideration and 7 rounds of internal voting, we've decided to update the Wii Menu to it's fifth major version.

Now, what is the major issue we need to fix with Wii Menu 5.0? The main thing that's stopping us from making developments is how software works on the Wii when they aren't opened. When a game is closed, they do not do anything on the home menu. As a result, software can't actively interact with each other since only one piece of software can be active at a time. To combat this, we need software to have a smaller, subtler version that is active even when the game itself is turned off. However, having every game be in this half-on status would use up the entire performance of the Wii. Therefore, we're making a change to the operating system where apps can be "docked" and "undocked", where "docked" games will run permanently throughout the system, while "undocked" software does not do anything and need to be docked to run on the Wii. And we've decided to call this brand new system Virtual Game Discs.

Virtual Game Discs could not be more simple. Whenever you get a channel, you will obtain a Virtual Game Disc for that channel. To launch the channel, you go to the new Virtual Game Discs menu, load your disc, and open the software. In the future, they'll all show up in your Wii menu. If you need to unload a Virtual Game Disc, you simply go back to the VGD menu and press the unload button, and they'll be removed from your main Wii menu.

You can also lend Virtual Game Discs to your friends! This can be done rather simply by bringing two Wii systems together, and connecting them by using one of the two USB cables found on the official Nintendo Switch or Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter on each Wii system, and connecting a Game Boy Advance to that controller adapter. The data will then pass through the Game Boy Advance and into your friend's Wii where the software will be available for 14 days. Please make sure to repeat the process to return the game. Due to copyright laws, we will be forced to brick your Wii if there is proof that the software has not been returned.

Thank you so much for reading! Wii Menu 5.0 is required to continue to use any WiiLink service, so please make sure to download it from the WiiLink Patcher. You may be concerned about downloading a third party update that changes your system internals, but to that we humbly ask why are you such a coward? Don't you trust us? I really thought we had something here but I guess you're not even gonna download the Wii Menu update I worked so hard on, I can't believe it. Your mother would be ashamed of you. Literally right now my mum and dad are going through a divorce and it's all because you didn't download my Wii menu update. I quit now, you're not getting any more WiiLink News, fuck you.
