This interview includes spoilers for Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) for some reason.
This interview was recorded on November 14th, 2025 over voice chat using Discord.
Becca: I keep forgetting the intro everytime I do this. Hi Austin!
Austin: Hello.
Becca: By the time this releases, December, hopefully your first season of Nintendo Daily Life has finished! Congratulations!
Austin: Thank you. I already can't believe it's been 5 months since the series came out. If season one's almost finished.
Becca: Probably longer right? Because we didn't do October.
Austin: Yeah it was a whole ordeal.
Becca: I'd say it was pretty consistent overall.
Austin: I was hoping to get it out in October, but of course because Indiana weather conditions suck and me procrastinating a little bit, I wasn't able to get it out on time.
Becca: That's true. I think most of our issues come from procrastination to be honest.
Austin: Yeah.
Becca: This is the first WiiLink Original in a while, I wanna say this was in June.
Austin: I think so.
Becca: It's the first one since Pineapple News* which was half a year before.
*Pineapple News - Comedy WiiLink Original series by Pineapple. Recently concluded in September.
Austin: Wow. It's been half a year since Pineapple News came out?
Becca: Yeah, and it was even longer than that since Sound Chamber*, which was the last WiiLink Original done by an external member. Was the idea for Nintendo Daily Life something you were thinking about before the submission form?
*Sound Chamber - Music based WiiLink Original by Flatbeek. Currently in hiatus.
Austin: Yeah. A while back I was thinking about creating somethingー Mainly because at the time; well I still do YouTube a bit, just not as often because my schedule's been messed up. I was originally just planning to put it on a secondary channel, but then I remembered that WiiLink Originals existed, and I figured it'd fit more on there, so I decided to file a submission even though I wasn't expecting to make it onto the team.
Becca: I think it was a bit late right? When we responded I think it had been a bit since you sent the form.
Austin: Yeah it had been like 3 months since I sent it.
Becca: We didn't expect you to respond either to be honest. We need to get back to checking that form.
Austin: I honestly wasn't expecting to receive a response back, considering how the form said "if we don't get back to you in three days we probably didn't accept it".
Becca: Wait does it?
Austin: I'm pretty sure!
Becca: We need to change that.
Becca: Compared to what you usually make on your YouTube, you had more internal feedback with us sending notes for the pilot. What was it like to have that, considering usually you don’t get feedback until it comes out.
Austin: Honestly that feedback was kinda needed, because I’d say the pilot went on for way longer in its original form than its edited form. I mean it was edited previously, but that was mainly meant for YouTube. I had to heavily edit the pilot for WiiLink. And I don’t think I could’ve refilmed, because at the time I had already used up all the ingredients for that one episode, and I didn’t have enough for the next if I wanted to do a refilming. So I just kinda had to, like, fake it till you make it or something like that.

Becca: I remember in the original version, one of the notes we sent, I think it was Kolton*, something about the music, it was the one Food Channel* theme.
*Kolton - Kolton Ramos, creator of Homebrew Tea and content director.
*Food Channel - Wii Channel that lets users order real life food. Currently operational in US and Canada.
Austin: Yeah, it was from the Demae Channel, it was one of the tracks used and I just used it for the entire cooking section, which was like 5-7 minutes. Which was like, yeah. I mean. the track is nice on its own, but just listening to it on loop for that long must’ve been tiring.
Becca: I’m glad you’re ok with the criticisms. Because it feels really bad to tell someone to give feedback saying something’s not great. It feels bad.
Austin: It does. Mainly because it feels like you’re shattering one’s confidence giving feedback like that.
Becca: From the sounds of it, you retrospectively seem to notice the pilot’s problems. Do you think while making the series, you’ve gotten better at making videos or have more of an eye for it? Your comments indicate that you’ve improved your skills since we started.
Austin: Yeah if I compare the pilot to say, episode 4, the editing has definitely gotten a lot better since then. Probably because I’ve had more time to practice with every new entry. Especially since the pilot was originally meant for YouTube, but episode 2 was meant for WiiLink so it fit a whole lot better.
Becca: Can you clarify what you mean by something that fits YouTube vs something that fits WiiLink.
Austin: With YouTube its the editing style that I used originally, but with WiiLink I had to mix up a few things. I don’t exactly remember the pilot, it’s been a while since I watched that. I don’t know if I incorporated the Wii cursor into that yet.
Becca: It might’ve been in the intro.
Austin: I don’t think I even remember the intro being in the pilot.
Becca: Was it not?
Austin: I have no idea. It’s been months since I’ve seen my own pilot.
Becca: I guess that’s normal to do that and not constantly rewatch your own stuff.
Austin: Looking back on it now, I feel a bit cringey. I’m pretty sure that’s normal with any type of content you make.
Becca: It means you’ve improved enough to find it old and outdated. In a roundabout way it means something good.
Austin: Yeah. Lore-wise I don’t consider the pilot canon, it’s kinda like Sonic 06.*
*Sonic 06 - 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game. Released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Becca: (laughs) We need to do a rerelease where at the end- I don’t remember exactly, I think the universe resets at the end of it. You have to incorporate that into the episode.
Austin: I should!
Becca: The episodes of Nintendo Daily Life are quite short and concise, but they involve testing the games in its filming. How much time do you spend testing?
Austin: An hour to three. With stuff like Wii Fit* I had to shorten it down to a day because I don’t think people want to see a 7 day time lapse of some kid just using Wii Fit.
*Wii Fit - Fitness game which trained to make the player healthy.
Becca: Has the way you’ve been testing stuff, has it been consistent? Or has the format changed overtime.
Austin: Can you elaborate on that?
Becca: In the first episode, you used a DS cooking guide and the test was to see if you could make something with it. Has the idea of what constitutes as a test, or what you want to do with that test changed overtime, or has it been consistent from the get go.
Austin: I’d say it’s been a bit consistent. I have to do research on what I could do for a Nintendo Daily Life episode because I can’t do something like buying Wii Sports accessories and see if Wii Sports can make you better at sports, that’s cheap.
Becca: Yeah.
Austin: I mainly look at first party accessories. I mean, I’ll do stuff like EA or the Udraw* tablet, which was episode 3. Or was it episode 4? Wait, now I’m confused on my own lineup. I don’t know if I did Wii Fit for episode 3 or Udraw.
*Drawing tablet accessory for the Wii, released by Ubisoft.
Becca: The canon is in ruins. I think Wii Fit was episode 3.
Austin: Yeah I think so.
Becca: As of right now, we’ve spent 5 episodes testing software and various accessories this year. We’ve concluded that as a full season. But considering there’s other accessories and games, do you think there’s more to revisit in the future?
Austin: I’m not sure, once I do all the Wii and DS accessories, I don’t know if I want to move on to Wii U and 3DS, because I don’t own a Wii U. I never had one. Originally, when I was younger I asked my parents for one, they ended up giving me a Switch instead.
Becca: Those bastards!
Austin: No dissing the Wii U but I think the Switch was a bit better. Shame I couldn’t play Mario Maker* though. That was the only reason I wanted a Wii U. I ended up getting the 3DS version, which I’m not sure if people know it exists.
*Super Mario Maker - A 2D Mario level creator and level hub for the Wii U. Received a sequel on the Nintendo Switch.
Becca: That’s the one where you can’t upload levels, right?
Austin: I think you can upload them, there’s just no search bar.
Becca: No wait, I think the only way you can share levels on 3DS was through StreetPass. Which was insane.
*StreetPass - 3DS feature that allowed 3DS systems passing each other to share data. The feature was used in various games to share items or support.
Austin: It’s been a while since I played it. I’m pretty sure the servers went down a while ago.
Becca: Man, if only there was some kind of service that made them available again.
Austin: Subtle foreshadowing.
Becca: Even without 3DS and Wii U, I think there’s still plenty of DS and Wii stuff. You’ve done 5 episodes thus far, but do you think there’s more in the future.
Austin: Yeah, I have made a whole list of what I could do. I had to narrow it down because I can’t exactly just grab a Guitar Hero* guitar and say can Wii help you get better at guitar, because that’s not really a guitar, it’s just pretending to play guitar.
*Guitar Hero - Series of rhythm games where the player pressed buttons on a guitar controller to licensed music.
Becca: Yeah Drew Gooden* did that!
*Drew Gooden - American commentary YouTuber.
Austin: Wait what?
Becca: He did a video trying that exact concept. I don’t think it worked.
Austin: Yeah I don’t think so too. There’s a bit more than just 5 buttons to a guitar. Just maybe.
Becca: Yeah. I would be a goddamn expert at drums if Taiko Drum Master* skills carried over.
*Taiko Drum Master - Series of Japanese rhythm games based on Japanese drums.
Austin: Oh yeah! Taiko could actually be a good idea. Although I’m pretty sure it’s Switch only.
Becca: There’s a bunch of Taiko games on the Wii.
Austin: I don’t think there’s a specific Taiko controller though. If I ever wanted to play those games I’m pretty sure I’d have to un-region lock my Wii, which I haven’t done yet.
Becca: I can send a copy. I have like 5 of them.
Austin: You’re serious?
Becca: I think I have all the Taiko games on Wii, they’re not expensive. There’s a ton of Taiko games and America got like 2.
Austin: Wow, America’s really getting the short end of the stick there.
Becca: So you were saying you made a list of ideas.
Austin: Yeah, I have no idea where it is. It’s on my Mac somewhere.
Becca: Whether we’ll have future episodes is entirely dependent on if you can find the list.
Austin: I also had to take into account if I could actually afford these things, or actually use them. I’m pretty sure there’s a diabetes sensor for the DS, which I don’t have diabetes so I can’t actually use it. It goes for like 500 dollars on Ebay*.
*Ebay - Online auctioning site.
Becca: You can get diabetes for the episode.
Austin: (laughs) Commit to the bit huh.
The full season of Nintendo Daily Life is available to watch now on Wii Room.
