Hello! This is a bit of a different newsletter than usual. For the first time in a while, we have nothing to really share with you. I know! Feels weird to say. I usually start writing the newsletter as soon as the first piece of news comes in, but that hasn't really happened this month. So instead of just showing up empty-handed, let's talk about what's going on.

Usually, we have a bunch of things to cover because we have different sectors of our team working on different things. This means that while something is being worked on, there's usually something on the smaller scale that's ready to be announced. (WiiLink Checkout was heavily delayed because it was overlapping with Food Channel Just Eat Edition!) However, we're at a rare moment right now where there's less things we're working on right now.

For content, there is a internal project we're currently working on that we're currently unable to reveal anything about. It's a little frustrating to not be able to share anything about this, but more information is coming soon on this! We're pretty confident we'll be able to tell you about this project before the end of the year. It's something quite different from our usual output, but I'm really excited to share this with you all.

Our developers have been thrown a curveball this month with a bunch of technical issues that has really made it difficult to make progress on things. We entered October with the News Channel already experiencing a long outage, blocking all news from showing in the channel. A large percentage of the progress that was made this month was focused on solving this. And while the PHP incident that shook a lot of the internet did not impact us very much, there was another incident that shortly followed that very much did affect our Accounts system, meaning a fix had to be made for that as well. Development is not always a straight line, but sometimes means revisiting problems that wasn't there before.

Some reading may be confused at why this is happening. After all, we are living in an age now where programs can be made using "shortcuts". That's what we've been seeing the past couple of months with various homebrew scenes, where a ton of hastily-written programs and code is used to turbo-charge homebrew and porting. However, while people who know what they're doing can use this method to make what they were going to make faster, this is not always the case.

We've seen plenty of cases where programs are made by people not entirely sure of what they're doing, releasing it into the world, only for it to have plenty of issues and in some cases, genuinely cause harm to your machines. If you only take shortcuts, you'll never know how to run the track when it matters. We're proud to have a team that is compromised of people who know what they're doing and wants to make WiiLink the best Wii experience it can be. So thank you to everyone who is being patient with us. We really appreciate it.

Fun stuff is coming soon! But for right now, we're asking you to be a little patient with us. We'll see you next month.
